What is the best age to change a car?

How long is a piece of string? Depends on too many factors to give a straight answer, not least depreciation. If a car depreciated £500 a year then may make sense to swap it before it needs a new set of tyres and a timing belt. But if it depreciates £5,000 a year the sums add up very differently.
