Fuel rail problem with my X-Type

My X-Type broke down on motorway. The glow plug light on the dash started to flash, the engine management light came on and the car cut out. It had to be towed home.

The OBDII codes read p0251, p0251+ and p1000. The fuel filter was changed as it did have gunky stuff and dirt in bottom. The car started and drove about 400 yards then the glow plug light flashed and it cut out.

OBDII code only reading p1000 now and not the other codes. Looked up symptoms and all seemed to lead to cam position sensor. This has now been replaced but the car still will not start. Looking at the fuel pump in the tank now as I can not hear it buzz when the ignition is on or turning over. I have owned this car for 8 months and strangely can not remember ever hearing the fuel pump buzz.

There does not seem to be any pressure in the fuel rail. I'm thinking that the fuel should not just dribble out of here. The fuel does get to the tops of the injectors but intermittently and again not much pressure.

Well code P0251 is indicating that you have a problem with Injection Pump metering control valve, which means it could be either the wiring/the pump or the ECU.

As for the code P1000 it doesn't exist, what does exist is the code P0100. If that is the code then it is saying that your MAF (mass air flow) sensor is faulty.
