Engine failure BMW320D Timing belt
I bought a second hand BMW 320D E92 coupe with 140KM in December last year. It came with a full BMW service history. Unfortunately the timing belt snapped on the motorway six weeks ago resulting in the need for a new engine. I spoke to BMW Ireland and they were most unsympathetic and refused any goodwill due to the fact it was a.) Out of Warranty and the fact I'd not purchased via approved BMW sales channels b.) The high mileage.
Both of which are fair enough, but I'd hoped the fact that I'd had it serviced by BMW soon after buying and the fact that it has a FSH might tempt them into giving me a portion of goodwill. The dealer gave me a 5% discount on the parts and reduced the labour charge a little (they also lent me a car for four weeks. But I'm still left with a 13KEuro bill for a four year old car. Is it unreasonable to expect a little bit more from BMW?

Basically these engines (and any other timing chain engines) need more oil changes than the service indicator tells you they need. An oil change at least every 10k miles.
