Buying a second hand mid-sized hatchback
I currently run a 2006 Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 Design with 61k miles. My daily commute has increased from 16 miles to 50 miles - mainly motorway. I'm looking for larger (Astra/Focus size) used vehicle with more power and the same or greater fuel efficiency (currently average approx 42mpg in the Corsa). The 1.4T Astra looks good, but what else may fit the bill?

Yes, I like the Astra 1.4T. Tested and video tested here:

Alternatives are anything with the VWG 1.4 TSI 122, so Golf, Leon, Octavia (but all three are up for replacement soon).
You could consider a Kia Cee'd or Hyundai i30 1.6 CRDI. Recently current Cee'ds were going cheap because the new model is about to arrive. Try www.drivethedeal.com to see if any are left. The new i30 is already here. Don't know if any old ones are left, but there may be some pre-reg still about.
