Engine problem with SEAT Altea 1.9 TDI

I have a Seat Altea XL 1.9 TDI 59 reg and every few weeks it refuses to start - it normally kicks over first time no matter what the weather is. SEAT installed a new fuel pump about 6 months ago, then checked everything that the technical dept at SEAT UK requested back in December 2011 and still there are intermittent problems? SEAT say they can't do anything else because they can find nothing wrong. I am concerned because the warranty expires 30 September this year.

I turn the engine over about 10 times for around 12 seconds each time. The only way I can get it to start is to pump the gas pedal and then it starts, albeit rather erratically. Local SEAT garage state that pumping the gas pedal is irrelevant for a diesel or this model.

So i take it that they have carried out the normal checks i.e, fuel lines/pipes/filters etc. Did they the carry out a diagnostic check and if so what code/s did they come up with( if any).
Over and above that did they check the glow plug module??
The check process from here that we would follow is
1.ECT ( engine coolant temp) sensor
2. Injectors
3.EGR ( exhaust gas recirculation) solenoid
4.EGR cooler bypass valve
5.EGR valve -mechanical
6. ECU connections/wiring
7.ECU programming.
8. ECU module.
As for the warranty just make sure that you have somewhere recorded that the problem exists and that if it was to continue past the warranty date that you expect them to resolve it.
