Which engine is best in the Ford C-MAX?

I have to update our Mondeo estate (2002 petrol) and am considering a C-Max, perhaps 1 or 2 yrs old. I am attracted to the 1.6 diesel because of low VED, and good economy.

Your review has very little bad to say about this car, and other reviews are generally positive, but I am slightly concerned about your advice with DPFs and DMFs which the C-Max seems to have. We do about 10000-12000 miles per year, mixing local weekday journeys with longer weekend/motorway trips. Would you stay with petrol or go for the diesel?

The 1.6 TDCI in cars from 2004-2008 had quite a few problems, especially coking up of the oil feed pipe to the turbo bearings from drivers switching the engines off too hot. Later 16v 1.6TDCIs much better. And no problems so far with the 'new' 8v 1.6 115PS TDCI in the current C-Max, also used in the Mazda 5.
