On tests on this site the overhanging engine design at Volkswagen/Audi is criticised. How does it affect driving?

Can lead to ponderous handling at the front of the car. Generally overcome by suspension improvements in recent years. Audi has now moved the final drive of its engines to between the engine and transmission to achieve a better balance.
