Excessive oil consumption in a 1.4 TSI
In December 2010 I bought a Polo GTI 1.4TSI 180BHP, replacing my 2008 150Bhp Polo GTi.
It was sold to me as being more economical fuel wise and having better performance. However, the original engine suffered from excessive oil consumption. They replaced the piston rings but this caused the consumption to drop to 400 miles per 1l of oil.
This resulted in a new engine being fitted at the end of October. Since then, I have had to top up with 2 litres of oil, the first 1l after 1770 miles, the second after 1300, just above the tolerance stated in my hand book (which is 1l per 1200 miles).
It is doing worse than the original engine to begin with yet the dealer says 750 miles per 1l is normal. This parameter contradicts my handbook and the money I am saving on fuel is going on oil. I dread to think what it is doing to my catalytic convertor and turbo. What are my rights to complain and to ask for a refund as the car in my opinion was misold and not fit for purpose?

Some quite serious bore washout problems leading to piston failures in high power 1.4 Twincharger engines. People seem to think its an induction problem. The engine draws too much fuel at the wrong point in the cycle.
