Downsizing our cars

We would like to replace:

1. My wife's Volkswagen Beetle 01 plate that was bought last year - as it consumes a lot of petrol! She only does school runs and about an eight mile run to her clinic. I had spent £2500 on it plus £1000 on repairs last year and would like to spend £3000 inc money from resale of the Beetle. She would like a automatic with 5 seats.

2. Replace my 2003 Zafira that I have had since new, would like comfortable family 5 seater automatic with low running costs, would like to spend upto £8000 including money from sale of Zafira.

My daily run is in the city about 20miles and occasional motorways.
