Swapping a Ka for a Golf
I currently own a 57 plate Ford Ka Sport SE (1.6 8v engine) that has done 32,000 miles, but it is a very thirsty, uneconomical car to drive, particulary as I am doing significantly more miles that I originally anticipated when I bought the car - 12,000 rather than 7-8,000.
I have the opportunity to swap this vehicle for a 03 plate VW Golf Match (5 door, 1.6 16v engine) that has done ~88,000 miles, but I'm not sure if I should swap a newer car for an older, higher mileage car. Whichever car I choose, I will be replacing it in 12-18 months time, so it is a relatively short term issue, but which one do you think it is better to have for this period?
I will be looking to trade them in as part of the deposit for a replacement vehicle, so the higher value vehicle in 12-18 months time is key consideration in the decision, but this is balanced by running costs over the same period.

Don't. This model Golf is a bad car with a bad engine. Always go for newer for the same money. Never pay more for an older car with low mileage because it will always ber an older car and valued accordingly.
