Viva Aviva
After reading many letters from your readers about dubious practices insurers, I would like to give credit where I think it is due. My wife and I are both insured with Aviva, she with a Honda CRV and I with a Porsche Boxster. Both of us have protected maximum no-claim bonuses. Unfortunately, my wife had two claims in about 3 months earlier this year. In the first incident she was forced to take avoiding action and hit a kerb at about 30mph. This claim was settled by Aviva and we had to pay the excess charges against the claim. In the second incident, the other party accepted blame and an independent witness supported my wife. In both claims, Aviva, within 2 or 3 hours of our reporting the incidents, arranged for its local repair depot to pick up the CRV and deliver a rental car to our house. A key point is that the rental car was a basic Vauxhall Corsa (not a 4x4), which is perfectly adequate if the alternative is no transport. In the first claim we had the replacement car for over 3 weeks and the second a few days. The local repair facility was very impressive, displayed certificates of approval from major manufacturers and kept us up to date of the repair progress by phone. Both our policies came up for renewal and, after all the media hype about increases in costs and correspondence to you about worthless no claim bonus protection, I was relieved to renew the Porsche policy for the same price (admittedly after some telephone negotiations), and was pleasantly surprised when my wife's renewal came through for about a £2 / year increase. In my experience, Aviva provide an excellent service. Its staff on the other end of the phone are human and very helpful.

That is a refreshing change. Aviva also now offers multi car policies, similar to Admiral and www.primoplc.com
