I have recently had to return my company Mercedes Benz Vito Dualiner (6-seater), which was a fantastic family vehicle with masses of space. I now have a Vauxhall Insignia and a Ford Mondeo estate on the drive - both of which cannot transport my wife, 4 children and I. I need to buy a 7-seater people carrier that for most of the week will be used for the school run but will be used for much longer trips at the weekend and at holiday times. I would imagine we would cover about 12,000 miles per year. I looked at a 2006 Renault Grand Espace 2.0t Dynamique 2006 at £5,995 that seemed to fit the bill, but running costs for this petrol version would be high. I can spend up to £10,000, so should I look for a diesel model, or is there anything else I should consider with this level of budget?

Ex Addison Lee Galaxy 2.0TDCI auto. Any colour you like as long as it's black: Addison Lee’s depot is at the corner of Hampstead Road and Granby Terrace, just South of Greater London House, London, tel 0207 3889799. The fleet is more than 3,000 diesel automatics and the original 6 speed torque converter automatics are gradually being replaced with Powershifts.
