Raising the hanker
I have always hankered after a Range Rover, but will never be able to afford a new one. I can possibly pay £20,000 - £25,000. What age of vehicle could I get for that money, what model should I chose and will I get 5 years trouble free motoring.

£25,000 money buys a 2006/56 TDV8 Vogue auto from a dealer, or a 2007 at auction. I cannot guarantee reliability. But complaints now seem to have dropped off and I hardly ever hear any apart from when people leave wine coolers connected while the car is parked and run the batteries down. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/land-rover/range-rov.../ Be warned, though. A range Rover cannot defy gravity. If you want better stability on corners, go for a Range Rover Sport.

What would you recommend in the way of a cheap used 4x4 to tow a boat & trailer, combined weight 15-1600 kg? Must be cheap to buy, fuel consumption less important, as mileages are likely to be small.
