I refer to a question from AR and your response as I have a similar question. On 9th August, I met a friend for breakfast at 8am at McDonald's on the A12 at Boreham Interchange near Chelmsford. Unbeknownst to me there is a 90 minute time limit on the length of stay at this particular venue, and although there is a notice to this effect, I did not look for any such signs as I did not expect there to be any restrictions. After all, it is a restaurant with its own car park. Eight days later, I received a parking fine for £50 from MET Parking Services as I had stayed over the 90 minutes. The charge notice included threats of an increased fine and Bailiff and County Court action should the fine not be paid by a certain date. I subsequently wrote to and emailed McDonald's head office on several occasions explaining that I was only eating and drinking in their restaurant and not knowingly abusing any regulations, but their Customer Services Department would not consider my situation, saying that I had contravened their parking regulations. I reluctantly paid the fine, as I was not sure of my grounds on a legal basis, but feel very angry and upset by their uncaring attitude. The bottom line here is that my "reward" for spending money in their restaurant is a £50 fine. Is there any more I can do to get my money refunded?

Not now. But I will try to publish this as a warning to readers not to patronise McDonalds cafeterias until McDonalds treats its paying customers fairly. It is fair for a McDonalds near an airport to put a limit on parking, to prevent taxi drivers and relatives of incoming passengers from using its carpark to wait for flights to arrive. But it is grossly unfair to penalise its own customers who spent all the time their car was in the carpark inside McDonalds actually consuming McDonalds products.
