Out Vauxed
My husband and I have driven Vauxhalls for many years. I have a 2003 Astra 1.4 16v, he has a 52 Vectra 1.8. We are intending to change at least one of the cars and possibly even go down to one car now we have both retired. We like the level of equipment available on Vauxhalls for what we have spent, such as the controls for the sound system on the steering wheel, but wonder whether another Vauxhall is the best bet?
Our budget is up to £12,000 and we would like something a year or two old.
Priorities are: safety, seat comfort and easy access (due to arthritis). I quite liked the Meriva for this large boot, for double buggy and other grandchildren's paraphernalia plus shopping/suitcases (don't think the Meriva fits this) Isofix brackets for baby seats preferably petrol (we don't do high mileage) reasonable economy and maintenance bills preferably British built and it would be great if it would fit in our standard sized single garage. Is it unrealistic to expect all of this from one car? What would you suggest?

You can get a current shape Astra 1.4T 140PS Elite on an 2009/59 to 2010/10 reg within budget. That's a nice car. I don't think you'll get a new shape Meriva within budget.
