Bio beware

I recently read a small article concerning fears associated with new legislation from the EU and subsequently the UK, on increased use of biofuel content and consequent reduction of sulphur content in marine diesel fuel. The article explained the changes could result in microbiological growth in engine components with the resulting risks of such things. The associated risks are not only of health to people but can cause damage to engines and sudden fuel filter blockage with resultant engine failure. Are you aware of any such changes to DERV (diesel engine road fuel)? The article mentioned concern at the potential for Red Diesel also to be included in the new specifications.

Yes, as the previous email, there is concern that biofuels are hygroscopic and therefore much more subject to emulsification of the fuel leading to blockages if the vehicle is not used frequently enough.
