Father and son reunion

We recently saw an item in a Saturday edition of the Telegraph about insurance for first time car buyers. Unfortunately the paper has been thrown out. My grandson is taking his driving test soon and will get a car when he passes. Your article suggested that if he named his father as the second driver he might get a cheaper insurance. Both parents have big cars (Audi and BMW), so the smaller car would definitely be used by his father.

There are various ways to reduce the premium for a younger driver. Adding mature drivers who live at the same address and who will definitely drive the car from time to time is one step. There are some others, such as fitting a smartbox to the car so the way it is driven and the times it is driven can be monitored by the insurer. You will find some of these at: www.honestjohn.co.uk/useful-websites/tax-insurance.../ Of course, if the car is fitted with a smartbox and is occasionally driven by a mature driver, that driver will also have to be on his/her best behaviour.
