These fuelish things remind me of you
I went to your website on real fuel figures and found that it is based on a month's consumption. My figures are based on 20,100 miles since new in a VW Passat CC 1.8 TSI. Overall consumption works out at 38.22 mpg. This includes 9,000 miles in France with half of this at 130kmh cruising on autoroutes; the rest in mixed driving in the UK. The onboard computer consumption readings are about 5% optimistic. Petrol consumption is now some 7% better than in the first 5,000 miles. I added just under half a litre of engine oil at 450 miles and the same amount at 3,600 miles. Since then the oil level has remained unchanged between the two oil changes undertaken.

The Real Life Fuel Economy Register is based on whatever readers supply us with, whether it's a month’s figures or a year's figures. All we are looking for is an overall realistic average. Not something correct to five decimal places. Economy is usually 5% - 10% better in summer than in winter. Please enter your figures in the box at the bottom of the relevant section at www.honestjohn.co.uk/realmpg

Spacious and comfortable. Wide range of engines. Big, boot with lockable seatbacks. Generally better from May 2008 onwards.
