Missed whiplash
About a month ago I was in stationary traffic and was hit by another car. The driver admitted responsibility. I reported it to my insurance company who handed it over to their claims management team. Within 20 minutes their legal people were in touch regarding a personal injury claim. Through reading your column I was expecting this and as I don’t think the compensation mentality in this country is a good thing I told them that I was fine but that if anything developed I would be in touch. They rang me every day for over a week before giving up. So far, so good, but although I was fine for the first few days my neck began to stiffen and I couldn’t turn it easily and was in some pain and discomfort. I thought that this would clear up and did nothing. When after a few weeks it was no better I finally went to the Doctor who confirmed Whiplash and told me that because I had delayed in seeking treatment I had made matters worse as the muscles were "locked up". I would therefore advise anyone involved in such an accident to see a physio fairly soon after the accident to avoid this problem.
