Lies, damn lies and static tests

Regarding battery leakdowns, I have a friend who is a modern auto electrician, by which I mean he has all the latest kit code readers, etc., but for a suspect earth he does the following: Connect a multi meter (set at volts 20 position) between the battery negative terminal and the engine block. Get someone to crank the engine and a reading of no more than 0.5volts should be present. For a static drain check, remove negative battery lead, then put a multi meter (set in the amps position) in the line between the negative lead and the negative battery terminal. The maximum reading should be no more than 250mA. I thought it may be useful to your readers.

Many thanks. Might fly over the heads of most readers (who read the column more for fun than for anything else). But I'll try to run it.
