We're looking for a small SUV - is the Skoda Yeti the pick of the bunch?
I have been looking at the range of small SUVs, as we live in a rural area and the likes of Honda CR-V, Freelander and the Skoda Yeti, etc., appear to fit the bill. In regards to the Yeti I seem to recall your comments in favour of the 1.8TSI 160, as compared to the 2.0-litre diesel with all the associated maintenance problems you mentioned, particulate filter, dual mass flywheel, etc. As a retired couple we do not do that many miles so the rather thirsty petrol version would seem the better option, but would going for the 1.2 petrol be asking too much? We are not that bothered about the 4x4 drive as we don't go off-road - its just the ground clearance that would be attractive.

The Yeti that is by far the most fun to drive is the 1.8TSI 160 4WD. More fun than a Golf GTI. Its fuel economy has recently been improved and a lower spec model introduced. If fun to drive and performance isn't your bag and you don't need 4WD, then the Yeti 1.2TSI105 or 1.4TSI122 are probably the ways to go. Don't completely exclude the Toyota Urban Cruiser 1.4 D-4D 4WD. That is the lowest CO2 4WD you can buy, while the Mitsubishi ASX 1.8D 2WD is extraordinarily economical.
