I have followed the on-going tail of increasing insurance costs, but there is a way we can all help cut those costs. My Mk4 Fiesta required a windscreen after a stone cracked the original one. Whilst I am fully comp and covered for windscreen replacement, given the age of the car, I considered just paying direct. I called Autoglass and explained I was covered but enquired what the cost would be if I paid direct. To which I received a calm, "That will be a minimum of £400." I said, “Hang on. You have not even asked what make or model it is.” The answer was, “it doesn’t matter, it’s a minimum of £400.” This company is exploiting the fact that almost everyone goes through their insurance and simply pays the excess to the windscreen company and they sort the rest. The rest being a big mark up to the insurance companies. Which we all pay for in our premiums. I refused, rang a local company and had the windscreen fitted for £210. Even if yours is a company car always ring a local company and don't let Autoglass rip us all off.
