Can you recommend a replacement for my Qashqai that will deal with rough roads better?
I own a 3-year-old (just had first MoT) Nissan Qashqai 1.5DCI Tekna 4x2 that I like very much. We bought this car due to my husband's illness as we had previously owned Land Rover Freelanders, which my husband had been able to maintain in the past (and needed to on many occasions). As we required a reliable, comfortable car, the Qashqai was a good option. My dilemma is that I would like to use a very rough road for which the Freelander was ideal but I don't think the Qashqai was designed for this use. Not being able to use this road means an extra 10 miles round trip to visit my daughter.
I would like a suitable off-road vehicle and while I loved the Freelanders, especially the driving position, I would prefer something a bit smaller (more reliable) and not necessarily 4x4. I carry the dog and sometimes the grandchildren and use the car for leisure and the odd trip to the amenity tip. Would you recommend I buy new or used?

Your problem is that it's a Tekna that comes on 17-inch wheels with relatively low profile tyres. Switching to Visia 15-inch wheels or Acenta 16-inch wheels with deeper profile tyres should make it suitable for a rough track. You don't need four-wheel drive for that, just decent ground clearance and decent tyres. It's probably best, year round, on Pirelli Scorpion tyres.
