Fully Komp
I am thinking of buying a 2002/52 Mercedes Benz SLK 200 Kompressor from a local garage. The garage specialises in Jaguar, Mercedes, BMW, etc. up to 10 years old. It has full service history and has covered 85k miles by two owners. It looks in good condition for its age, although the drivers seat shows signs of wear.
It has been HPI checked and has MoT history. It has a fold away hard top rather than a hood. The salesman says the engine size is 1.8 litres but I can't find any reference to such an engine in this model of car. Do you think that he has got it wrong and the engine size is in fact 1,998cc?
It has 6-speed manual transmission. The car is priced at £5,995 or £5,495 with no part exchange. I want the car as a fun car for a couple of years and will cover around 15k miles in that time. Are there any major pitfalls to be wary of with such a car? Do you think the asking price is fair and what might I reasonably expect to receive if I sell the car in a couple of years when it will have about 100k miles on the clock?

The SLK did not get the 1.8 Kompressor engine until its 2nd generation in 2004. The car you have seen will have the 1,998cc 163PS Kompressor engine. Price is very fair for a 2002/52. Book retails at £6,425 with 76k miles in May. Trade books at £4,750. You should still get about £3,500 back in a couple of years time.
