As a professional truck driver, can I offer some guidance on how to control an automatic to avoid hesitancy and slow changing?
I drive trucks for a living and read most weeks about people passing comments regarding the hesitancy and slow changing of automated manual transmissions. Trucks also have them and I could pass the same comments, but with careful throttle pedal control a very smooth drive is possible. There is usually a long delay in take up if holding the vehicle on the footbrake and swapping to the throttle, but if stationary at a junction the use of the park brake (as if performing a hill start on the level) will produce an immediate getaway. It has been interesting talking to a few haulage companies to learn that they are going back to ordering manual transmissions on the grounds of economy. I hate them.

I was driving the new Peugeot 508 1.6HDI EGS recently. This is certificated at a remarkable 109g/km, and, by judicious driving, I was able to get 65mpg on the meter on a run between Birmingham and Coventry. That is almost incredible for a large, 5-seater sedan.
