I think you are being over generous to VW. I bought a new 57 plate Audi TT 2 litre DSG which had the same problem from new. Despite a software upgrade it did not improve and I sold it after 12 months. Recently, rather stupidly, I bought a 10 plate VW Polo 1.4 DSG assuming they would have solved the problem. It was exactly the same from new. The dealer could not identify the fault and lent me an identical courtesy vehicle. It had the same dangerous fault. I sold the Polo after 4 months losing £3k and will not buy another VW/Audi group car. I now have a Hyundai ix20 1.6 conventional automatic. A perfect car with no problems. Warning to all your readers - do not buy a VW/Audi DSG car.

+++ Further to the publication of my letter in Saturday's Telegraph Motoring, I recently met a former VW sales executive of many years experience, who tells me all VW diesel installations with DSG suffer the same problem.
