Which wheel size should we specify with our new BMW X3?
Long gone are the days when the only decisions you had to make when ordering a new car were colour and model. We recently spent several hours deciding on the options/packages for a new BMW X3, a pleasant task, but confusing. With many of your answers relating to wheel sizes can you advise on the best size for this vehicle? The standard 17-inch or the larger options? At the same time we ordered a set of duplicate wheels and winter tyres from the factory (which the dealer will store and fit FOC). Do we still have to inform the insurance company? We have until June to make any changes to the spec.

Standard 17-inch wheels will be the most comfortable. The one we drove from Innsbruck to Farnborough was on 18-inch wheels with Pirelli Sotto Nero Winter Tyres, but 18-inch wheels and tyres are more easily damaged than 17s and the tyres are more expensive to replace.
Remember to specify the fantastic panoramic satnav. It's not much dearer than the standard cheapskate looking one that ruins the look of the dash. The F25 X3 is a wonderful car. By far the best SUV and better than the X5. Let your insurer know, but the ABI ruled no increase for winter tyres.
