Dropping insurance costs

A neighbour's daughter has at the age of 18 passed her driving test, she has an old S plate Fiesta as her car and was quoted £1,500 for her third party insurance. She asked the broker what she could do to get her premiums down and two suggestions came forth: 1 - Put her dad as a named driver on the car (her quote dropped to £750) and then 2 - Do a Pass Plus which would get her about £300 off her premium too. The broker did say that he was pleased it was lunch and the bosses where out so wouldn't hear his advice. The young lady concerned was happy she rang when she did and got an honest broker, too. Could this be useful to your other readers?

Yes. It has always been sound advice to put as many mature drivers who can realistically drive the car as additional drivers on a young person's policy because in an underwriter's eyes that lessens the risk. (Do not put someone on who lives 200 miles away.) Insurers vary in attitude to Pass Plus, but it's always worth doing properly because the lessons learned can save the young driver's life. 7 alternative insurance schemes for young drivers here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/useful-websites/tax-insurance.../ I think www.mbdrivingacademy.com does the best Pass Plus courses.
