This means that yet another expensive piece of kit (that notoriously failed expensively on hundreds of thousands of cars) is to be legislated into cars in order to reduce their economic lives. There must have been very strong lobbying by the components manufacturers to get this through. It is true that ESP could prevent up to 80% of skid related accidents in wet weather, but in ice and snow it can actually cause them by fighting the driver’s reactions.
