Spare part surgery
Recently there have been press articles about the Organ Donation Register and the DVLA. Some months ago I had to apply for a new driving licence. This was attended to very promptly. However, late Nov I received a letter of thanks from NHS Organ Donor Register thanking me for my commitment to become a donor. This I had NOT considered. On investigation, DVLA confirmed that I had not ticked the Organ donation box on the form and that my consent for organ donation had been incorrectly processed to NHS by them. Apparently, if indicated, the code 115 on the reverse of the photocard licence indicates that you are on the Organ Donation Register and I would advise drivers to check this detail. I have reapplied for a new licence without organ donation. Agreeing to organ donation is a very important decision, but if incorrect processing by DVLA results in one being registered as a donor I consider that the box for organ donation should be removed from the form and be an entirely separate form.

I agree. While I happen to think every driver should tick the box, it is a serious decision for the individual to make and not be tricked into.
