Is it true that the DVLA will supply driver details to car parking enforcement companies?
My wife was recently fined £60 for parking in Waitrose for 2.25 hours. I have no quibble with this. However the parking company (Europarks) stated that unless the fine was paid they would be able to access our home address from the DVLA records and would take appropriate action. My question is can the DVLA release this information to a third party without our consent under the Data Protection Act?

Unfortunately yes. There is an exemption from the Data Protection Act that allows the DVLA to sell car keeper details to parking enforcement gangs. Read the booklet that accompanies the V5C of your car. Now the British Parking Association is trying to get a bill through Parliament making car keepers responsible for private parking fines whoever was driving the car. Nick Clegg might regain some popularity by stopping this, if his bosses allow him to. Obviously landowners have to have some control over who parks on their land. But Parliament also needs to control the controllers, otherwise this is another licence to print money under the Penalty Culture introduced by Gordon Brown that we thought we had got rid of.
