What's causing my Land Rover Discovery 4 to hesitate when I try to accelerate?

I have a Land Rover Discovery 4 diesel automatic, purchased new in March 2010, mileage now 5,000. On occasions when I have driven to, say, a roundabout or junction and slowed down and stopped, when I accelerate nothing happens. The engine is still running but it does not pick up, and then it suddenly goes. The engine is up to temperature. I have taken it back to the dealers, a mechanic came with me for a drive but sod's law dictated it did not show the fault with him in the car. Any ideas?

This will be the delay built into the braking system that ensures you cannot accelerate while the brakes are on. Sometimes they stick. So you take your foot off the brake, start moving across a junction on the fuel still in the combustion chamber, then the ECU cuts fuel off for a second or two thinking the brakes are still on. The fault might be the brake light switch, or it might be that the circuit is affected by moisture in the rear brake light clusters. Get your dealer to check.
