Did you know some insurers in Northern Ireland have been fighting credit hire claims?
Your reply of 2 October to BN quotes the record credit hire bill as £40,000. The attached judgment, involving footballer Darren Bent, raises this to over £63,000. You may not be aware that in Northern Ireland some insurers, notably Allianz, have been fighting credit hire claims vigorously. I have been involved in defending such claims for many years. Unfortunately, the High Court here clearly wanted to put an end to litigation and has ruled against the insurers in this battle, although there will still be disputes over rates and length of hire. If you wish to see the various judgements of the Northern Ireland High Court I can provide them.

Many thanks. Yes, I know insurers have been losing cases. This is an incredible affront to natural justice that opens the floodgates to charlatans, scammers and thieves, to the cost of every policyholder. The awkward question is, why was it not raised in the British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) eight-point plan to reduce the spiralling cost of motor insurance submitted to the Government in November. All I can do is warn punters off and hope that eventually a senior politician (such as Nick Clegg) gets onto it in order to improve his own popularity. The trouble is, the issue is not sufficiently understood for readers of red top tabloid newspapers to appreciate this, though the Daily Mail could give it a good shot.
