Is there a way for me to check I’m getting the improved suspension on a 2010 FIAT 500?

Yes, with all apart from the Abarth (which definitely has the improved suspension), look under the back at the twist-beam rear axle. If there is a bar inside it from side to side, it has the improved suspension. No bar, it doesn't. (You can't see it in the Abarth because the exhaust silencer is in the way.)
