Car starting problem

Car starts fine in the morning. After a 5/10 minute drive, if I turn the key the car it doesn't start. It cranks fine. If I hold the car key it continues to crank then after about 2 minutes it picks up and starts.

By now I can smell a chemical, but it's not petrol. If I leave the car for 4/5 hours it starts ok. If I drive for an hour, then it restarts fine. I changed the fuel pump relay, it didn't solve the problem. The engine management light sometimes comes on too - then it dissapears. When I changed the relay, it came on. Do you know what it could be?

Well we would suggest that you have a diagnostic check carried out, which should then show up a fault code.
If however you do not want to do this ( although we would always recommend this) then you should look at
1. ECT ( engine coolant temp sensor)
2. EVAP Evaporative emmision cannister purge valve)
3. MAF ( mass air flow sensor)
