2004 Mondeo DMF problem

The garage has advised that the DMF is faulty and needs replacing, both of us thought that only diesels had the DMF fitted. Is this something that normally goes wrong on petrol cars?

No, 1.8 and 2.0 petrol engined versions of Mondeo IIIs also have DMFs.
