Automatic transmission failure after 30,000 miles

The automatic gearbox on my Zafira CDTI 1.9 has clapped out with just over 30,000 miles on the clock and just 2.5 months over the 3 year warranty.

I have been advised by the Vauxhall dealer that Vauxhall are prepared to pay 50% of the £4600(!) replacement cost.

Whilst I appreciate that legally they are under no obligation to contribute anything at all, I feel I have been penalised for keeping my mileage low. Also the price seems very expensive. Can you please advise?

First I've heard of this 6 speed Aisin Warner box failing. It is very widely used in Mondeos, Galaxys, Citroens, Peugeots as well as Vauxhall/Opels. I would definitely push for some additional goodwill from Vauxhall towards the cost as it is plainly a matter of "unsatisfactory quality" for the transmission to fail at such an early stage.
