Supermarket diesel
Does the problem with supermarket petrol also apply to diesel? And is there a particular fuel to look for?

Yes it applies to diesel. Stick to Shell V-Power diesel or BP Ultimate diesel. The precise content of the additive packages of these is, of course, secret.
