Clearing a DPF

I have been told that if I do several short trips in a 4x4 with a dpf i can un block it by engaging low in theauto box and then driving flat out up a steep hill for about one mile. Could this be true and would the regulator prevent any engine damage?

It could help, yes. Not flat out, but using up to 3,000rpm.
