The VW Golf is quite a popular Japanese import and prices are quite appealing – the majority being auto as this is what Japan prefers. They are normally well cared for and some will have a Japanese service history, but it's impossible to trace anything other than what comes with the car. In terms of pitfalls, the residual values will be lower because the car is an import, and you may need specialist insurance, which can add a fee. You may also need to chance the speedometer from km/h to mph and fit a rear fog lamp.
