Problematic gear selector

I purchased the car in October 2010 and have had a continued problem selecting reverse since I have had it.

The car has had a new gear box, dealer fitted, but is still not fixed. The last time I took it back to the dealer the service manager said he could not do anything about it as all the gears were synchromesh except reverse, and two ways to deal with it were to release the clutch until it engages (not recomended) or go into first gear then reverse.

I have spoken to the owner of the dealership and he just brushed it off as a characteristic of the vehicle and that I had to live with it although I pointed out that the defect was not pointed out to me before I bought the vehicle.

I must have driven a Patriot at some time, but don;t remember this happening. I wonder if in your case the clutch it not fully releasing and that is why you are having the trouble.
