I'm buying a used vehicle - should I be worried about a discrepancy on the V5C?
I am in the process of buying a campervan from a private seller. I conducted a vehicle check using which has come back as all 'green' for the common issues but I have noticed that it has the vehicle listed as having 'semi-automatic transmission' and 9 gears - I know the vehicle is definitely a manual transmission.
I am assuming this means there is an error on the V5 - would this be enough to potentially invalidate future insurance policies?
I will double check the V5C when I view the vehicle to see if that is the source of the discrepancy but what should I be looking for when I go to view the vehicle?

Errors can occur with the V5C registration document so to avoid any issues with your insurance company it would be worth inspecting the vehicle closely to ensure its validity.
We would advise checking all the VINs against that shown on the V5C - a quick search on the Internet should tell you all the locations it is stamped on the vehicle - and also ask the seller about the discrepancy. It is possible that when the vehicle was converted to a camper the transmission was changed, but we would expect the V5C to be updated to reflect this. It would also be worth contacting your insurer in advance, but if you have any doubts you should walk away.
