Should I buy a used Jaguar XF?

Can you give me your opinion of a Jaguar XF please. I had one (late 2015 mark), sold it and bought a Fabia that is very sensible but so boring. It makes complete sense! I still fancy a Jaguar XF again. Our circumstances will change in late January when we move to a flat with parking in Salisbury city. You could argue no car is needed at all. However, an XF?

I see car tax on some can be a staggering £600+ at this time but some older models can be under £200. I know loads of short journeys for a diesel will not be good as I found out!. However I think we will use it for some medium journeys and not that many short in any week. So it will sit with a decent cover on a lot of the time but with some longer runs to tick it over.

I was thinking of a 2011-2015 saloon with lowish mileage, 1 or 2 owners and great service history.
I can take some time do look for such. I can't afford a car that will be a cash gusler as we will be on a more limited income.

Perhaps I am mad? The Fabia is low mileage , does so much but! In your view what spec, engine, issues with timing chain etc might tick the boxes for these older XF's.
Feel free to be brutal!

You can read our review of this generation Jaguar XF here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/jaguar/xf/2008/ which includes problems that owners have experienced. As much as the XF is an impressive premium saloon, the reality is that it is going to be more expensive to run than your Fabia, servicing will be more expensive and should it need any repairs these are also likely to be considerably more costly than your current car, so it is important to be realistic about your budget and running costs before taking the plunge.
