Does a car manufacturer have to keep spares for a discontinued model? I have got a Renault Koleos 2018 and cannot get a blower motor (to demist windows ) anywhere. Off Renault or anybody else. Seems very strange!

Generally speaking, manufacturers are expected to keep a parts supply for all vehicles for at least 10 years after the cessation of production. However, in the case of some electrical parts there are still shortages of some components caused by the global semiconductor crisis, which led to huge backlogs in the manufacture of electrical items between 2020 and 2023 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. In these cases, the parts are often on back order with the supplier, which can lead to very lengthy delays. In the meantime, there are plenty of used Koleos blower motors as well a non-genuine pattern parts available on eBay, which may well get you out of trouble until genuine parts are made available again.
