Is it safe to replace single tyres?

Honda want to fit a new tyre on the front of my civic after an accident damaged my front wheel but there is no visable damage to the tyre only to the alloy wheel.Should they replace both tyres on the front as fitting only one seems to me to be wrong as in the past I have always replaced my tyres in pairs.My car is a Mk 10 Civic sport.
This is being done as part of my insurance claim which also involves repairs to damaged bodywork.

Generally speaking it is recommended to replace tyres in pairs if not all four at the same time, although it is not against the law to replace a single tyre. It is likely that, because this is an insurance claim only parts that have been damaged are being replaced and so there is no obligation to replace the tyre on the opposite side as it is undamaged and it would not make the car illegal to leave the existing tyre. You may wish to pay to have this tyre replaced yourself for your own peace of mind.
