Old Golf problems
I have an absolutely immaculate VW Gold mk2 1.6 driver. The only problem is the transistorized ignition unit (tci unit) has stopped receiving its 12 volt feed.
I bought a new ignition switch as this seemed the likely cause, but when tested the fault remained. How do I find out where the fault is? Is it possibly the wire from the ignition switch to the tci unit or could it be the alarm, which is switched off but not disconnected? What should I do next?

It would be advisable to have a wiring diagram ( workshop manual) so that you can then trace the circuit. Then by use of a suitable meter( avometer/test meter)carry out a sytematic check from the switch to the tci unit.It may be just a loose wire/corroded connection that is at fault(ie open circuit).
If not feasable then an auto electrician should be able to find the fault for you quite easliy.
