Keep or trade?

Hi, I have just taken ownership of my mothers VW Lupo 1.4 Auto, W-reg with 14k on the clock.

Great little car but my dilema is this: keep it as a run about until my daughter is 17 in 18 months or trade it in for something cheaper to run? Or keep it until she is 17 then trade it in?

What would you recommend for a 17 year old to start her driving career, she is car mad so has distinct views on models!
