I'm a driving instructor - do I need to tell my insurer about someone hitting my instructor car?

I notice in a recent response that you stated that incidents/claims count against the driver. I am an ADI and last year there were two incidents when my instructor car was hit by a third party. In both cases third party insurer accepted full responsibility and in both cases a pupil was driving at the time. On that basis do I need to declare these incidents when insuring my private use only car ?

As both claims were made and accepted by the third party then this shouldn’t be something you need to declare on your personal policy, as it shouldn’t impact your own policy. Some insurers may want to know about any incidents you are involved in, but as this wasn’t you personally, you may not need to declare it. If this does come up when you are looking for a quote and you are unsure, then you should speak to the insurer directly.
