Will the £40k expensive vehicle supplement for EVs be applied retrospectively?
There seems to be some confusion as to whether an EV first registered between April 2017 and April 2025 will be subject to the premium road tax charge if the RRP exceededs £40K?
The Gov website suggests to me that premium rate will only apply to newly registered cars from April 2025 and not EVs registered between 2017 and 2025, which will only be subject to the normal road tax rate.
Please clarify as this will influence my purchase choice of an EV registered between 2017 and 2025.

You are correct - the Expensive Vehicle Supplement will only apply to new EVs costing over £40,000 and registered from April 1, 2025.

What will road tax on a £40,000+ EV be in 2025?

If I buy an EV with list price £39500 and as an option have metallic paint at £555 will this make the car liable for the £40,000 'showroom tax' rate when EVs have to pay VED in a couple of years time?

With all the car tax increases I am just checking what are the cheapest petrol cars on the road as of 1st April 2025. Are there any vehicles that are zero tax or only £20 tax?
