Parking rules in scotland

Ive been reading the pages of excellent advice on when and when not to pay parking fines and the associated legality - some cracking advice that I wish I had seen when I got a ticket 3 years ago!

I have one question for you, what are the major differences when getting a parking fine in Scotland? I live in Aberdeenshire and would like to know where I stand if I get a ticket at one of the many pay and display car parks.
